Where Deep Roots Began

Butternut Publishing began with a shared dream to create Christ-centered children’s books that inspire faith, nurture Christlike character, and help children grow deep roots in God’s Word. Through encouragement, prayer, and a willingness to follow God’s leading, that dream became the beginning of our publishing journey.

Our journey began with Oh no, Goats! and Dumpster, Leave It!, two stories created to plant seeds of faith, kindness, courage, and wisdom. As Butternut Publishing grows, so will our collection of books that encourage families to grow together in faith and point children to God’s enduring love and truth.

Together, we combine our unique gifts in writing, illustration, education, and storytelling to create books that inspire faith, nurture Christlike character, and encourage meaningful moments for families to share.

Carrie Hoshaw

Author • Educator • Mother • Grandmother

Carrie believes some of life's greatest lessons are learned through stories shared with those we love. As a wife, mother, grandmother, lifelong educator, and follower of Christ, she is passionate about helping children discover God's love, build Christlike character, and grow deep roots in His Word. With more than three decades of serving children and families through education and family life ministry, Carrie brings warmth, wisdom, and a heart for discipleship to every book she writes. She believes stories can open the door to meaningful conversations, strengthen family relationships, and help children understand their identity and purpose in Christ. Her prayer is that every story published through Butternut Publishing encourages families to grow in faith together and helps children become deeply rooted followers of Jesus.

Kalley Niehuhr

Author • Storyteller • Mother

Kalley believes some of the sweetest moments of childhood happen when families gather around a good story. As a wife and mother, she is passionate about writing books that inspire imagination, encourage meaningful conversations, and help children grow deep roots in God's Word. After earning her Master of Fine Arts in Television Writing and Producing and working in creative storytelling, Kalley chose to focus her talents on creating Christ-centered books for the next generation. Her hope is that every story points children to God's love and reminds families that faith can be nurtured in the simple moments they share together.

Eva López Pardo

Illustrator

Eva López Pardo is a talented illustrator from Spain whose passion for visual storytelling shines through on every page she creates. Her expressive illustrations capture the wonder of childhood and beautifully complement Butternut Publishing’s mission of creating faith-filled stories that inspire imagination, encourage Christlike character, and become treasured family favorites.
